The Housing Choice Voucher program helps millions of Americans find access to safe, and affordable housing. But for every household that is assigned a housing voucher, countless others remain on the waiting list. Often, the wait for rental assistance can take years, though some applicants can receive special treatment and be bumped to the top of the list.
There are several reasons why local public Housing Authority may choose to move some eligible families to the top of the waiting list, so they can find housing faster than others.
1. Have extremely low income
Verifying your household income, and your family status is one of the first steps in the application process. This is likely the most powerful eligibility requirement a Housing Authority will consider when reviewing your application section 8 housing choice voucher program generally serves three income categories.

Families followed by households with many low income, and then those would low income, approximately 75% applications of a pH applicant represent extremely low income families if you know that your household can be classified as having extremely low income, talk to your pH about what income limits mean for having priority status.
